1This project for a floor of the former Shelter Institute building involved a new street entrance, stair and 2,500 sf of office space. The strategy was to clearly define and contrast the existing shell and new construction. Homasote panels are layed vertically as new full and part high partitions for the conference room and in the open office area. The materialmade of recycled newsprint has highly absorbtive acoustical properties. Baltic birch trim and custom designed tables and work stations provide another lively layer to the space.

Arrowsic Fire Station
-
1This new fire station was sited to maximize the solar orientation of the main overhead doors. It is designed to allow for future solar electric panels. The building houses a new fire truck and a brush and pumper truck. There is a small office and conference area with a toilet. A combination of flat roof trusses above the truck bays and scissor trusses allow for a small mezzanine level above the office area. The exterior is clad in cement board with vertical battens organized to eliminate butt joints in the siding. All materials were selected based on longevity and low maintenance. The concrete slab is radiant heated and the thermal envelop exceeds the Maine Energy Code. Heating is provided by a small propane boiler with on demand domestic hot water. Lighting fixtures were selected based on Efficiency Maine standards and The building is designed to allow the fire station to double as a town meeting space, and is used for Town Meetings annually.

1This series of 6 cabins arranged in a village like pattern are clustered along a circulation spine which connects the parking lot to the farm meadow to the south. The prefabricated wall panel system is erected on a radiant heated concrete slab. The buildings are oriented for maximum solar gain and privacy. The double height shed space allows for individual lofts to be built by the artists. The eastern cedar siding is applied vertically as a rainscreen. The roof is Galvalume standing seam metal.
