Unitarian Universalist Church Manchester, Maine This project is a schematic study for a new church in Manchester, Maine. The site is located in a rural area outside Augusta and the building orientation and form is a response to the agricultural setting. Organized around an open courtyard the building faces south to maximize the solar exposure. The mass of the building is broken down into several parts with the Sanctuary on one side and the Fellowship Hall on the other. The lobby and administrative office are centrally located. The building form and materials are simple and easily maintained. A series of solar panels on the Fellowship wing would provide solar hot water for heating and domestic hot water. Parking is located behind the structure to screen the cars from view.
